2001 Science Fair Awards
York
County Science and Engineering Fair, March 5, 2001
Senior Division
Winner: "Power Shortage - The Effects of Corrosion on
Resistance of Metals." (Use of Std.dev and CIs to assess within-group
variability, and also used regression over a time variable to visually compare
reaction rates among different metals.)
Honorable Mention: "The Right Stuff: What Makes Success"
(use of basic distributional stats and boxplots to compare scaled survey
results of student lifestyle
activities vs. GPA.)
Honorable Mention: "Can Beano Keep You Quiet?" (use of
regression analysis of observed chemical levels over time, for a visual
comparison among trials.)
Honorable Mention: "The Antibacterial Properties of Honey"
(for recognizing that the confidence intervals for the various group means
did not overlap.)
Honorable Mention: "Speed of Sound in Different Solids"
(use of regression analysis to calculate speed as a slope of measured distance
vs. time.)
